Running to End Fistula – Congratulations to our London Marathon Runners!
London was buzzing to welcome back marathon runners for the first time since 2019 at the start of October – and we’re delighted to report that our runners Ali White and Mike Wood achieved not only fantastic finishing times, but also hit their fundraising goals for Hamlin Fistula UK.
Ali and Mike’s combined efforts raised an amazing £3,384 – enough to fund six fistula surgeries in Ethiopia – changing women’s lives.
We caught up with Ali and Mike after their runs to congratulate them. Mike, 71, who completed the run in five hours 21 minutes told us, “the crowds and their cheering were incredible! the London Marathon organising team did a brilliant job in making sure the event was as Covid-safe as possible”.
Ali, who was running her first ever marathon, told us she enjoyed the race and pushed through a tough point just after halfway to make it to the finish line in an impressive four hours 16 mins.

We also congratulate Ethiopian Sisay Lemma who won the men’s elite marathon in an astounding 2 hours 4 minutes.
When we met Ali and Mike during their training, they both had powerful reasons for choosing to support Hamlin Fistula UK as their nominated charity – and their efforts have paid off and will contribute to our fight against obstetric fistula.
Please join us to congratulate Ali and Mike!
