With her husband, Dr Reg Hamlin OBE, she pioneered surgery for obstetric fistula and established six fistula hospitals, including the renowned Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital.
The Hospital By The River, by Dr Catherine Hamlin (with John Little) is a candid account of 60 years of service for women in Ethiopia suffering from obstetric fistula. Dr Hamlin weaves her own story together with the history of the hospital and that of her adopted country, Ethiopia. It is moving and utterly compelling.
