Run the London Marathon 2022 for Hamlin Fistula UK!

Do you believe in a world without maternal death, birth injuries or obstetric fistula?

Have you, or one of your friends or family, always dreamed of running the London Marathon?

If your answer is “yes!” to these questions – for the second year running we are delighted to offer the opportunity to run the TCS London Marathon for Hamlin Fistula UK!

Run to End Fistula for women in Ethiopia

For seasoned runners, it may be adding that long awaited medal to the display case, or for those wanting to build on their running journey it may be the excitement and achievement of taking on a new challenge. Wherever you are in your running journey, if you would like to run to End Fistula and change the lives of women in Ethiopia, we would love to welcome you to the team.

It is estimated that each year in Ethiopia 1,500 women develop obstetric fistula, and thousands more are already suffering its devastating effects, leading lives of suffering and isolation. But we want to change that.

Through our prevention programmes training new midwives deployed across Ethiopia, to our treatment and rehabilitation programmes which reach hundreds of women each year, Hamlin is making a difference. And by taking part in the London Marathon to raise funds for Hamlin you can play an amazing part in making that difference.

Ali and Mike with their medals

Ali White and Mike Wood, pictured, ran the 2021 London Marathon for Hamlin Fistula UK and raised an amazing £3,384 – enough to support six women’s fistula surgeries.

In the run up to the big day, Ali and Mike shared their experiences training for the marathon with us and we also caught up with them after the race to see how it went!

Want to find out more for you or a friend or family member?

We have one charity place available for this year’s race on Sunday 2 October 2022. If you’d like to take part in this amazing challenge, whilst raising funds to change the lives of women in Ethiopia for Hamlin Fistula UK please get in touch with us today.

To join #TeamHamlin we are asking our runner to pledge to raise £1,800* – to fund three women’s life changing fistula surgeries.

Your support could change the lives of three women like Asmira who told us after her successful surgery, “Since my surgery my life has changed”. Her husband Lemma, told us “Now after her surgery and support from Hamlin she can visit markets with friends, go to church, eat and drink whatever she wants and protect her health… You brought happiness back to our home.

In return you will receive dedicated support from our team, as well as:

  • Regular newsletters and charity updates;
  • A vest or T-shirt to wear on Marathon Day;
  • A cheer point on the marathon route where supporters will make lots of noise!

To find out more or register, contact Helen for an application form at helen@hamlinfistulauk.org or call 0121 559 3999 by Wednesday 12 July 2022.

Already have a place in the London Marathon?
If you already have your own place in the marathon you can still be part of Team Hamlin! You’ll have no minimum sponsorship target but you’ll receive all the same support. Email us to join the team.

* Not including Gift Aid For the successful runner, a registration fee of £49 will apply.
